An Exercise in the Impossible (After Manuel Arechiga), 2011
Elysian Park, LA, CA
September 20,2011
Duration: 02:24:00

On May 16, 1959, Manuel Arechiga was photographed sweeping the land in front of the tent in which he lived with his wife, Abrana, for 10 days after their house, along with the houses of hundreds of Mexican-Americans, had been demolished to make way for Dodger Stadium. This is documentation of a performance in which I sweep a small area of land that was part of Chavez Ravine for 144 minutes, 1/100th of the time the Arechigas occupied their tent.
