The term "ether" has been traditionally defined in two ways:

The first came into use directly after the theory of relativity was hypothesized. Since an object's speed is deemed relative to what is around it, that the speed of light could be a constant was deemed counter theoretical. Light needed to be relative to something. This "something" came to be known as the ether. It was an air-like substance found all around, but had no real effect on anything. It was simply there for like to be relative to. After many tests, no actual proof of ether was discovered, and the scientific community had to admit that it had been made up. The term, however, stuck.

Once the Scientific definition of ether had been disproved, it came to mean a sort of alternate dimension, again within the Earth's atmosphere, in which spirits remain after the death of their human bodies. This ether is much more intangible, existing solely in popular belief as opposed to any scientific testing.

This project combines the two definitions into one, creating a separate dimension on Earth in which "people" reside. The ether people, however, are not ghosts or spirits, as they have ever only existed in this ethereal state. They are classic and futuristic, human and spirit, always moving yet constantly still. They know that we exist and interact with our physical world, yet we are not able to see them. These photographs serve as a set of portraits of the daily lives of these people, living in a world that has been made for someone else.
